Matthew Holtby has released his latest project, the three-track intimate snapshot, Yesterday. It captures Holtby performing live at the centre, and then additional instrumentation is provided from friends and local artists on a baby grand, violin, pedal steel, mandolin and a few synths from the production team.

‘Be Good’ is a solemn but thankful acoustic number; ‘Yesterday’ is more meditative and softly uplifting; while the third track, ‘This Opportunity’, carries the best of both worlds, with a lush, quiet, organic backdrop and honest lyricism throughout.

Holtby explains, “I had the house to myself one evening, and decided to put up a couple of mics and just perform a handful of songs for the cats. After combing through the recordings, I thought they were a real raw representation of what I’m doing live lately, and decided to move one step further with them. I reached out to some friends who are exceptional at what they do, and this is the result.”

Recorded in living rooms, basements and back gardens before some extra tracking in a studio in Peterborough, Canada. Holtby’s solo music is influenced by his childhood and features true-to-life reflections on love and redemption.
