GET TO KNOW: Zel?

Having already delivered his much-loved LP 'Mode de vie' earlier this year, Maryland-based artist Zel? is already back on the grind with his explosive new single 'PULL UP!'

Teaming up with emerging UK rapper Len for the new release, 'PULL UP!' makes for an incredibly bold and energetic return to form. With their distinctive flows bouncing across a guitar-driven production throughout, he delivers one of his most impactful cuts to date here.

So with the new track out now, we sat down with him to find out more about his origins and influences over the years.

What was the first band or artist you fell in love with?

I’d have to split it with Bloc Party being the band as that and Fifa were an early conduit to my connection to the indie sound while the artist would be Prince as just a testament to versatility and just pure musicianship.

Did you ever form a band when you were younger and if so, what did they sound like?

No, but I would’ve loved to. I always thought that was one of the coolest things you can do alongside the thought of that and Prince is what made me wanna start learning guitar.

What has been your primary inspiration in writing music?

Making additions to the soundtrack of life. I don’t always see it as just my experiences although it plays a big part but the thought of this music taking people to a place, memory, or vibe I want to give people the reminder and feeling of life.

What is a song you wish you had written yourself?

I’d say white Ferrari by Frank Ocean.

If there was any moment in your career you could relive, what would it be?

Releasing my first project “Now and Forever” as it just gave me confirmation that I really do this and at the same time all of the second guessing and hesitation went out the window.

Which artist would you most love to share a stage with?

Kanye because there’s really no larger stage to be on than that.

And is there an artist you would love to collaborate with as well?

Would be between either Bakar or Lancey. Those guys are definitely my favourites right now from just how original they are and the inspiration I get from them.

Where do you see yourself in five years time?

Really hands on with my music in all facets especially the producing side since I’ve got so much interest in playing the guitar I really want to expand on that.
