GET TO KNOW: Ohmfield

After garnering huge success for his previously shared singles ‘Givin’ Up’ and ‘Rain Over Zurich’ earlier this year, fast-rising producer Ohmfield returns once again to deliver his vibrant new offering 'Darkness Deepens'.

Channelling a wonderfully fresh and inventive approach to electronic music throughout, 'Darkness Deepens' sees him continue his bold and adventurous direction from start to finish. With its warm and electrifying aesthetic and textured tones, he is cementing himself as a brilliantly distinctive name on the rise right now.

So with the new single available now, we sat down with him to find out more about his origins and influences over the years.

What was the first band or artist you fell in love with?

When I was about 14 I remember listening to Pink Floyd’s ‘The Wall’ for the first time and being completely blown away by its ambition. I had obviously liked bands before but I just never really appreciated what an album could be until that point. I was infatuated with them from that point.

Did you ever form a band when you were younger and if so, what did they sound like?

I played bass in my first band. Imagine a cross between Arctic Monkeys and Kaiser Chiefs but completely terrible. We were so good that we were bottled a few times. Good memories…

What has been your primary inspiration in writing music?

To be honest; the unknown. The main thing that inspires me when writing music is just trying something out and seeing if it works. Most of the time it doesn’t, but occasionally you get something that inspires you to keep going.

What is a song you wish you had written yourself?

Pink Floyd - Comfortably Numb. The journey that song takes you on is unlike any other song I’ve heard. When it's listened to within the context of The Wall it makes total sense and it always surprises me.

If there was any moment in your career you could relive, what would it be?

The first time I was included in a Spotify editorial playlist. It was quite early on in Ohmfield but it served as the perfect validation that my music wasn’t complete arse and that the playlist gatekeepers liked it. It was also on my birthday which may have had something to do with it.

Which artist would you most love to share a stage with?

Daft Punk, I absolutely love the robots and I’m so gutted I never saw them live. So not only would I be playing alongside legends but I’d also be seeing them live. Double whammy.

And is there an artist you would love to collaborate with as well?

At the moment, it’s probably Fred Again.. he’s had so many collaborations as a songwriter in the past and he’s so incredibly versatile. Everything that guy touches turns to gold.

Where do you see yourself in five years time?

The last few years have encouraged me to fully go for music so within 5 years I’ll be hopefully living off music by some means… Then world domination.
