What was the first band or artist you fell in love with?

Stevie Wonder, I don’t even know if I registered music as beautiful until Stevie Wonder.

Did you ever form a band when you were younger and if so, what did they sound like?

Haha yeah I had a band with my mom and brother. That’s how I started music, my older brother would play the drums, my mom would play the piano and I would sing. We would do shit like that at holidays and family gatherings at the crib. I was shy as shit too.

What has been your primary inspiration in writing music?

Every song is backed by a different experience, this upcoming Valentines Day drop really happened because I got married and had kids and shit. It really had me exploring what kind of music I could make that could cater to my wife and kids fr.

What is a song you wish you had written yourself?

I dont have moments when I wish I would have written a song instead of someone else haha but that’s an interesting ass question. If I had to answer it would probably be some obscure ass shit, maybe some Gnarls Barkley or something… actually, PSA by Jay Z would be high on that list next to a Lil Wayne freestyle or something.

If there was any moment in your career you could relive, what would it be?

A couple months ago I was in this creative rut, feeling like I knew where I SHOULD be, theoretically, but just hadn’t made the progress. I decided to take a week and literally did as much nothing as I could. I really was sitting just processing what elements, what blockage am I feeling but not seeing, that I can lose to move forward. I realised it was the judgement I hold over myself.

Is this my best hook? Can I perform that line better? Can my wife play this? Can it be in that TV show?

I decided to just make music, not based off of anything other than where I am right now. Just hitting record, punching in, and allowing who I am and what I do to shine fr.

4 Days later I had a whole album done, and I started wondering where else I could use that ideology. 2 weeks later I was booked for a recurring role on a new HBO show. I’ve been deciding to relive that moment where I let go and just started living every day fr. I’ve seen that my success comes from allowing myself to move freely and trust that the work I put in is there.

Which artist would you most love to share a stage with?

The only artists that I’ve seen live are Kanye, Beyonce, and Jay Z. Any of these Legends are my answer.

And is there an artist you would love to collaborate with as well?

Dom Kennedy, Ice Cold Bishop, Buddy, TY$.

Where do you see yourself in five years time?

Locked in filming a movie to drop at the same time as my 3rd studio album. Tour is crazy.
