With a background steeped in piano-driven compositions and jazz-pop flair, UK-based project North By Some Miles has long made music that tugs at the heart. But with the release of 'What About Love? (Remix)', the artist behind the moniker takes a bold leap into dance-pop territory, and the result is nothing short of magnetic.

Reimagining an introspective ballad as a euphoric anthem for the summer, this new version pulses with sleek synths, hypnotic rhythms, and the kind of emotional resonance that lingers long after the final beat drops.

So with the new single out now, we catch up with the creative force behind North By Some Miles to unpack their evolving sound and what this new chapter means for the project moving forward.

What was the first band or artist you fell in love with?

Such a tough question to answer, but I guess it was probably Santana. The unique  vocal delivery, distinctive Latin American flavour and raw emotion of the lead  guitar are still hard to beat. Having said that, numerous other artists, ranging  from Bill Withers to Eminem, have also left an indelible mark.

Did you ever form a band when you were younger and if so, what did  they sound like?

A while back, I joined a band covering 1960’s classics. I played keyboards and  provided some of the vocal harmonies. Happy days!

I’ve done some busking overseas, which could be fairly bleak at times, but it was  wonderful when people gathered to listen and showed their appreciation.

What has been your primary inspiration in writing music?

Writing music is not something I would have chosen – it sort of chose me! I have  a love/hate relationship with the process. I’d much rather finesse the  arrangement; putting together the basics in such a way that they really land can be all-consuming. Sometimes, you’ve got to break a lot of eggs to make an  omelette!

I can spend weeks on end trying to blend earworm melodies with lyrics that  actually mean something. I’m not saying I’ve nailed it by any stretch, but the  trick is to make the verse as strong as the chorus.

What is a song you wish you had written yourself?

Another tough one! It might sound cheesy but a song that swirls around my  head on a fairly regular basis is The Long And Winding Road. I couldn’t tell you  why, but there’s something about the haunting sincerity of the writing that  resonates. It just works.

If there was any moment in your career you could relive, what would it be?

A while ago, a total stranger messaged to say that a song of mine had got them  through a particularly difficult time. I can’t remember the exact words, but it  meant a lot at the time and sort of made it all worthwhile.

Which artist would you most love to share a stage with?

Someone I think is amazing is Gregory Porter. His rendition of Water Under

Bridges is a thing to behold. He also seems like such a nice guy!

And is there an artist you would love to collaborate with as well?

You may have gathered that I have a seriously eclectic taste! I love working with  super-skilled people in almost every genre and it would be incredible to spend  time crafting something awesome with Calvin Harris.

Where do you see yourself in five years time?

I just want to make music! Time will tell what form that takes exactly, but as long  as I’m somehow shuffling pieces in a musical jigsaw, I’ll be OK.
