What was the first band or artist you fell in love with?
The first artist I fell in love with and discovered on my own was Childish Gambino. I found him when I was 1, back during his late mixtape days. It just felt like he was speaking to a weird group of black kids that no one else was talking to at the time. I needed that.
Did you ever form a band when you were younger and if so, what did they sound like?
No, I was never in a band, but I grew up in the church choir. That definitely played a huge part in the music I make today. You guys will see when I drop this upcoming project.
What has been your primary inspiration in writing music?
My primary inspiration has definitely been my past experiences - I use them to create my own reality and worlds that I would want to exist in. My dreams control my day to day.
What is a song you wish you had written yourself?
Probably “Gush” by Pharrell Willams. I want to be able to just to make something that’s so effortless and sexy without trying to be. With real instruments!!! That’s what I’m working towards.
If there was any moment in your career you could relive, what would it be?
I don’t think there’s a moment I’d relive yet. I haven’t really come up for air yet. Right now, I’m kind of just focused on executing. I’m in my zone and I love just embracing that moment.
Which artist would you most love to share a stage with?
Gotta be Childish Gambino. I think it would be a full circle moment for me. Being on stage with someone who has had such a huge influence on me. That’d def be a highlight for me.
And is there an artist you would love to collaborate with as well?
El Alfa for sure. His music is so fun. It’s a nonstop party and I wanna be a part of that. Otherwise Bree Runaway. She’s so versatile and confident in herself and her sound. I have no idea what the music we’d make would sound like, but I know it would be magical.
Where do you see yourself in five years time?
Five years from now I wanna be executive producing for some bigger artists. As an artist that started off as a producer. I love the challenge of helping other artists reach the vision they have for their art. I want to just make art that’s going to push me to grow as a student of music. I gotta keep my mind busy.
