After his breakthrough hit 'Jordan' cemented him as one of the brightest names emerging on the scene right now, Australian rapper Complete returns once again deliver his powerful new single 'Tell Me Twice'.
Capturing more of that bold and impactful direction he is known for, 'Tell Me Twice' makes for an incredibly captivating listen. With his raw and driven flow riding across an atmospheric production from start to finish, he is certainly looking to turn some heads with his rousing new release.
So with the new single available to stream now, we sat down with him to find out more about his background and inspirations over the years.
What was the first band or artist you fell in love with?
I started falling in love with Hip Hop around grade 6 and it was during the Era where Eminem and G-Unit were becoming the biggest artists in the world. From there I started delving into so many other artists as well. But yeah Eminem & 50 Cent were definitely my introduction.
Did you ever form a band when you were younger and if so, what did they sound like?
Not so much a band but when I was 16 years old, my friend Defekt and I formed a crew called ‘’The Psych Ward’’ (TPW). A collective of solo artists who have all had their own issues with mental illness and addiction and we represent each other as a team and collaborate often still to this day.
What has been your primary inspiration in writing music?
My biggest inspiration in writing music is pretty much utilizing it as an emotional outlet. It has always been my biggest coping mechanism. Whenever I need to get something off my chest, writing and recording it makes me feel much better. Especially also once the song is released and I see that so many people can relate. It makes me feel less alone with stuff that I am going through.
What is a song you wish you had written yourself?
My favourite song of all time is ‘Sing For The Moment’ by Eminem. So probably that. I love the emotion it captures and the lyricism and vibe in general is just amazing.
Also ‘Stan’. I love the story telling aspect of music and that concept is just groundbreaking.
If there was any moment in your career you could relive, what would it be?
There are so many. But having my mum see me perform to a big crowd at my own headline show for the first time was pretty surreal. From her seeing how it started to where it has ended up. Yeah, that was a pretty beautiful moment.
Which artist would you most love to share a stage with?
It is a goal of mine to one day be on the same lineup as Eminem or 50 Cent. Seeing as they are who got me into Hip Hop in the first place, that would be a dream come true.
And is there an artist you would love to collaborate with as well?
SO MANY! Obviously Eminem & 50 Cent but here are also a few names I would really like to work with at the moment. Tech N9ne, Hopsin, Token, NF, Aitch, ArrDee, Stormzy, Hilltop Hoods, Joyner Lucas. The list could go on forever haha.
Where do you see yourself in five years time?
Just doing what I love to do. Making music, releasing it and touring the world. Hopefully my music can help people along the way and I would love to just share my story with as many people as possible. That has always been the goal.
I have also recently just started my own record label ‘’Move Over Records’’ so I am also excited to start signing artists and helping them reach their goals as well.
