What was the first instrument you learned to play?
The piano. I was around 8 and my parents enrolled me at the Conservatoire National de Musique François-Mitterrand. Which is one of the best reference here in Mauritius if you are young and eager to learn music (classical music, though) for a start.
What was the first album you remember owning?
It was Coldplay's Parachutes. Was probably my brothers' since I was just a little older than 9 but I remember listening to it and feeling how majestic it was. The arrangements, the sound of every instrument and effects, the vocals, the lyrics. It then became a true sanctuary as I was growing up.
Did you ever form a band when you were younger and if so what did they sound like?
I did not form a band as I was quite an introvert and really secretive about my music and me singing until the age of 15. I remember though, as we were kids with my two brothers, my parents would make us sing and perform in front of guests. We were happily remaking parts of Notre Dame de Paris (the french musical) as we were quite fascinated by it ourselves! That's the first band I remember ever having!
What is a song you wish you had written yourself?
So many of them! But if I have to chose one now, I'll say, Matilda by Alt J. That's such a cool song and I would have been the coolest kid behind it playing at huge festivals with the crowd cheering and singing aloud! Yeah! And oh I loved Léon The Professional too. Double win.
What has been the most thrilling moment about creating your own music?
It's when the inspiration finally strikes after you've sat yourself for hours looking for it. It's when the words flow freely and sounds amazing with the melody and you get the shivers because you know it's gonna be something. I always close my eyes then, imagine ourselves playing in front of a big crowd, heart full. Making sense of it all.
What about the most frustrating part?
This one everyone knows. It's the first step, always the most difficult one. Sitting down to write or compose a melody. Especially when you don't feel like. Forcing yourself to look for it, from within and from everywhere else, and it just doesn't come - today.
Which artist would you most love to share a stage with?
It is one of my dearest goals to share a stage (a song!) with Coldplay. I believe there is no dreams too big, no accomplishment too unrealistic, no goal to surreal as long as you dare and be ready to do what it takes to get them!
Where do you see yourself in 5 years time?
I see myself rooted in Mauritius and flying everywhere around the world for our shows. Growing in love and wisdom. I see myself contributing on a larger scale to social projects amongst vulnerable communities through our music. I see a few albums out and a tons of amazing songs traveling to different worlds, cultures and traditions through the help of digital platforms as well.
