GET TO KNOW: YOUNG JIMMY

Writer's picture: The Real DingThe Real Ding

After cementing himself with a wealth of bold and driven offerings these last few years, emerging artist YOUNG JIMMY is back once again with his blistering new single 'Pull Up To The Party'.

Bringing back more of that raw and driven sound that he is known for, 'Pull Up To The Party' makes for a highly impactful listen. With its euphoric guitar hooks matched up against his vibrant vocal style throughout, this new one will have you up and out of your seat in no time.

So with the new single available to stream now, we sat down with him to find out more about his origins and influences over the years.

What was the first band or artist you fell in love with?

I don’t know the answer to that question off the top of my head but, the first album I purchased with my own money as a kid was ‘Californiacation’ by the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Did you ever form a band when you were younger and if so, what did they

sound like?

Yea I did, I formed one in high school and I named it after my cousin ‘Renny Reid’. I thought he had a cool name (RIP). It was mostly a jam band, no vocals, Grateful Dead vibes.

What has been your primary inspiration in writing music?

Freedom of expression. Passion for the art. Songs usually come to me in my dreams or some sort of inspiration whether it's something I'm going through in my life or someone else’s. Hearing a great song or artist can inspire inspiration too or spark a whole other new idea. Half of the time I write music to lyrics the other half I write lyrics to music.

What is a song you wish you had written yourself?

‘Free Bird’ by Lynyrd Skynyrd

If there was any moment in your career you could relive, what would it be?

Opening for Kendrick Lamar. If I knew the full scope of who he was becoming I would have done a few things differently.

Which artist would you most love to share a stage with?

(agh..I can’t pick one) Foo Fighters, Radiohead, Thundercat, Rage Against the Machine, Anderson Paak, Red Hot Chili Peppers.

And is there an artist you would love to collaborate with as well?

I would love to collab with King Krule, Yves Tumor, Travis Barker, WILLOW, Lizzo, Cinnamon Babe, H09909, Nick Hakim and Anderson Paak.

Where do you see yourself in five years time?

Happy, overseas on the tail end of a successful tour for my critically acclaimed 3rd studio album.
