Genre-defying, emotionally charged, and fuelled by pure vida, MAURINO is an artist who refuses to be boxed in. The Chilean-Dutch trailblazer returns with 'Solo Una Vez', a smooth yet vibrant Latin-pop banger and the closing track on his latest EP. As always, he’s not just making music, he’s making moments, building bridges between sounds, cultures, and hearts.
Created in collaboration with Caribbean-Dutch hitmaker Ir Sais, 'Solo Una Vez' tells the story of that one love you thought you’d lost, and the fire you feel when the universe offers a second chance. It’s a song about grabbing that moment and never letting go.
So with the new single out now, we sat down with him to find out more about his origins and influences over the years.
What was the first band or artist you fell in love with?
Silvio Rodriguez, a Cuban singer songwriter. His voice, his poetry and his guitar moved a whole continent!
Did you ever form a band when you were younger and if so, what did they sound like?
Yes! TenTemPiés, it was a ska rumba reggae sound! A lot of fire, especially on stage! Moshpits, stagedives.. all that!
What has been your primary inspiration in writing music?
Social injustice.. stories of so many others that need to be told.
What is a song you wish you had written yourself?
Gasolina by Daddy Yankee
If there was any moment in your career you could relive, what would it be?
My mum lives in Chile, she went back before I started my music career. She got to see me and my band for the very first time when we did a tour in Chile. Seeing her standing in the audience, with tears in her eyes, was something that I will never forget and would relive time after time.
Which artist would you most love to share a stage with?
That must be the one and only Bob Marley.
And is there an artist you would love to collaborate with as well?
Artists like Pharell, Ed Sheeran. Fantastic artists, songwriters and producers.
Where do you see yourself in five years time?
Selling out the main hall of the Paradiso, Amsterdam; and writing tracks for great artists and producing for myself and others. And world domination. Obviously
MAURINO's new single 'Solo Una Vez' is out now. Listen to it below.
