What was the first band or artist you fell in love with?

The first band I fell in love with was Linkin Park. I loved how they incorporated synth sounds and drum loops to live instruments. Since I also love rap music, when they did the collab with Jay-Z, I lost my mind! I had that album on repeat everyday for almost a year.

Did you ever form a band when you were younger and if so, what did they sound like?

I was actually in a band in high school called “The Evening Block” as the keyboard / synth player. We did punk rock music but our most popular was when we incorporated rap and rnb elements to our music. People still hit me up till this day asking for songs we did back then lol.

What has been your primary inspiration in writing music?

My primary inspiration when it comes to writing music for me is simply life. Things I’ve gone through incorporated with things my friends have gone through. I kinda do a blend of stories if they are similar. For example if my friend had a story where a girl and him had a one night stand, I’d mix it with my story of actually taking her out for breakfast in the morning and four consecutive dates after that. (True Stories)

What is a song you wish you had written yourself?

I don’t want to sound like that guy, but all the songs I wish I had written for myself, are songs that I’ve written for myself. Even when it came to songs I’ve written for other people, I’ve always found a way to make dope but something they would say. I pride myself in thinking, “Wow, I really came up with that.” Great storytelling and lyricism over everything.

If there was any moment in your career you could relive, what would it be?

Producing for Prince. I was so caught up in the creative side of things I didn’t really get to sit down and be like “WOW I’m really doing this!” It wasn’t until the song was actually put out that I was like oh snap! And then there were talks of doing more songs, and meeting him in person. Then I got the news that he passed and it was crushing.

Which artist would you most love to share a stage with?

I would love to share a stage with Bruno Marz or Ed Sheeran. The whole live instruments stadium vibe is it.

And is there an artist you would love to collaborate with as well?

There are toooo many. Lil Wayne, Bruno Marz, Bad Bunny, Wyclef Jean, Beyoncé… just to name a few.

Where do you see yourself in five years time?

I will be the #1 independent artist in the world.
