From the volcanic landscapes of Madeira Island comes a pop force erupting with dark glamour, cinematic ambition, and dancefloor-ready defiance. Meet ÆTHR, the rising electro-pop visionary whose latest single ‘Santa Maria’ distills raw inspiration into a gothic, high-octane anthem of self-liberation. Written in a flash of divine chaos, the track fuses pulsing synths, haunting melodies, and a message that’s as bold as the artist behind it: be unapologetically yourself.
Inspired by the theatrical audacity of icons like Lady Gaga and the sonic depth of artists like Troye Sivan and The Weeknd, ÆTHR crafts immersive experiences with every release. Whether it’s the layered harmonies of ‘Santa Maria’ or the hypnotic visuals that accompany it, nothing is accidental. Every detail is a declaration.
So with the new single out now, we sat down with him to find out more about his origins and influences over the years.
What was the first band or artist you fell in love with?
The first artist I fell in love with was without a doubt Frank Sinatra. Classical, timeless and a legend.
Did you ever form a band when you were younger and if so, what did they sound like?
I did not. I was not into music whatsoever.
What has been your primary inspiration in writing music?
When I write music, it’s like a little bird is whispering in my ear what to write. I am heavily inspired by my life experiences as most artists are, but I have to say that sometimes I like to pour fiction into the mix. I am a natural storyteller and I believe telling stories, whether through music, paintings or writing, is very powerful.
What is a song you wish you had written yourself?
Interesting question. To be honest a couple. I love particularly Marry The Night by Lady Gaga. I think it’s a song that really hits deep in my heart, and I can really resonate with it. I could have written that song. Maybe in another dimension I did haha.
If there was any moment in your career you could relive, what would it be?
The best moment by far was when I stepped on stage for the first time. I felt like it had been my home all along. I felt really at home. That’s when I knew, following this path was the right thing to do. I love to perform, because I am able to portray more that way than through mere words.
Which artist would you most love to share a stage with?
Without a doubt it would be Lady Gaga. She told me we can be our authentic selves, and people will love us for it. Like her, I am theatrical, daring, and unafraid to be innovative in sound, aesthetic and brand. She is an idol of mine, and I would love to one day share the stage with her.
And is there an artist you would love to collaborate with as well?
Plenty actually. But my top 1 collab would be The Weeknd. Mysterious, iconic and personal, he is another idol of mine, and I appreciate his sound and unique art. Our collab would definitely be full of drama, mystery and a piercing sound that would hit deep into the listeners souls.
Where do you see yourself in five years time?
Call me delusional or very ambitious, but in 5 years time, I see myself touring over the world, sharing my sound and art with more and more people. I see myself as the next pop star. And I will do whatever it takes to get there. Belief, persistence and a deep passion for music, will get me there. Listen to music, it guides you to where you need to be. Trust the universe, because its timing is divine, and what is to come for you, will at the right time , at the right moment, just keep pushing and believing in yourself.
