After spending the last few months building and cultivating his sound, Birmingham-based singer-songwriter Harry Sampson aka UnderwaterSun has now delivered his debut single 'Girl I Never Knew'.
Channelling a fresh and laid-back approach to songwriting, 'Girl I Never Knew' makes for a wonderfully warm introduction to his sound. With its sweeping hooks, breezy aesthetics, and enjoyable persona from start to finish, this is just what we need for these warming summer months.
So with the new single available now, we sat him down to find out more about his origins and what has inspired him most over the years.

What was the first instrument you learned to play?
The first instrument I learnt to play was violin, but I didn’t really practice.
What was the first album you remember owning?
I don’t really remember “owning” and album but the first album I ever listened to was The Kooks Inside In Inside Out.
Did you ever form a band when you were younger and if so, what did they sound like?
I was put into a band when I was thirteen when I first started playing guitar by my local music service, but it wasn’t that good. It was just a chance to play. We just played your basic guitar songs really. I’m now in a band with my best mate who has only recently started playing guitar which should be exciting.
What is a song you wish you had written yourself?
The Kooks - Naïve.
What has been the most thrilling moment about creating your own music?
Being able to understand how songs are made and released as before it seemed like this unreachable thing but now, I’ve realised that it’s not that hard to achieve.
And what about the most frustrating part?
For this single I did it all on my own, so it was a bit frustrating when I didn’t really know what I was doing. I’m definitely collaborating on future songs.
Which artist would you most love to share a stage with?
The Kooks
Where do you see yourself in five years time?
I see myself still writing but with a more professional sound and gigging and performing a lot and maybe a bit of teaching.
