What was the first band or artist you fell in love with?
I don’t ever recall the Beatles ever not being present in my life. My parents always had them playing around the house. But there are so many! Zeppelin, the Smiths, the RHCP, Pearl Jam, Sidney Bichet, the Grateful Dead, Daft Punk. The list could go on forever!
Did you ever form a band when you were younger and if so, what did they sound like?
I was in a band for a long time from highschool, through college until I was about 25. We were called Skip Hop and Go Naked. At one point we were being shopped by the same A & R rep that signed Blink 182. Kinda funny how things work.
What has been your primary inspiration in writing music?
Writing music is the greatest joy of my life. I’ve always had a radio playing in my head so I’m not sure I’ll ever stop thinking of new ideas for songs. I try to write songs that I would listen to in my house, car, etc. I don’t purposely write pop songs, garbage, etc. I know my audience, I have no interest in writing songs that beg for attention, I don’t have that inadequacy in me.
What is a song you wish you had written yourself?
Nobody Home - Pink Floyd
If there was any moment in your career you could relive, what would it be?
Not yet, but maybe.
Which artist would you most love to share a stage with?
Jimmy Page, Jimmy Durante, Noel Gallagher, Eddie Vedder, Billie Holliday, Andre 3000, Shannon Hoon.
And is there an artist you would love to collaborate with as well?
Loads! Although I like writing songs alone. I don’t need interference, I’m capable of writing what I want on my own. You’re not an artist if you need a team of other people writing your songs for you. You’re in a cover band of your bullshit of your own at that point. Johnny Marr, Noel Gallagher, Elliott Smith, Eddie Vedder, Jeff Lynn, Macca, Dr. Dre, Daft Punk, Julian Casablancas to name a few.
Where do you see yourself in five years time?
I’ll be 51 then. Who the fuck knows?! Probably writing songs that only I like.
