After a dazzling array of releases over these last few years, Stockholm's Ginko Bugs are back on the grind once again with their shimmering new single 'My Eyelash Girl'.
Bringing back for of that fresh and inviting pop-rock sound they are known for, 'My Eyelash Girl' makes for a wonderfully rich and immersive listen. With its heartfelt vocals and stellar production throughout, they are certainly looking to turn some heads with this one.
So with the new single out now, we sat down with bandleader Erik Åredal to find out more about his origins and influences over the years.
What was the first band or artist you fell in love with?
It was The Beatles who lit that fire in me and it’s still burning.
Did you ever form a band when you were younger and if so, what did they sound like?
Yeah…my best friend and I formed a band when we were 14 years old, at 16 we were a complete band. We tried a lot of different sounds and ways to do songs but when we became good enough to get signed to Sweden Music in 92, and they released our first single, I think we sounded like a 90's version of The Kinks.
What has been your primary inspiration in writing music?
Things that I experience in life and that I twist more or less. For me the melody and the feeling of the song is in the words and in the great mix dug of all the good music I’ve heard…
It’s just a matter of picking down the notes, with some kind of personal touch, at the right time when the wave of inspiration washes over me.
What is a song you wish you had written yourself?
Ohhh….there are so many good songs but a brilliant song that would probably suite me best is “Perfect Day” by Lou Reed.
If there was any moment in your career you could relive, what would it be?
When I did one of my first bigger concert at Gustav Adolfs Square during the Stockholm Water festival and TV4 was there…..we really rockin it and it felt ok even when I saw myself in that news clip later on.
Which artist would you most love to share a stage with?
I have 3 music “gods”, Lennon, McCartney and Bowie so the choice is easy….I would love to share a stage with the living “god” Paul McCartney!!!
And is there an artist you would love to collaborate with as well?
I should say Paul McCartney….but I think that I would get too nervous and unfocused, not good…so that is why my dream collab is Noel Gallagher, what a cool and extremely talented artist (somehow I think I can keep my nervousness under control with him!??)…it would mean the world to me!!!
Where do you see yourself in five years time?
Then I will have a well earned rest after a 4 year long world tour with Ginko Bugs!"
