GET TO KNOW: Streamer

Following on from their highly-praised studio album 'Dare To' last year, emerging outfit Streamer are back to their vibrant best once again as they deliver their anthemic new single 'Possessify'.

Channelling more of that pulsing indie-trance aesthetic they have built for themselves, 'Possessify' makes for an incredibly fun and distinctive listen. With its pounding beats and euphoric atmosphere layered throughout, they are returning to the fold with one of their most impactful efforts to date.

So with the new single available to stream now, we sat down with them to find out more about their influences and origins over the years.

What was the first band or artist you fell in love with?

Fleetwood Mac, then Peter Gabriel, then Michael Jackson…my first three vinyl albums, in that order!

Did you ever form a band when you were younger and if so, what did they sound like?

Oh yes! Since the age of 14; Red Opera, then Paranoia, The Harry Monk Band, The Racket, and Jam Sandwich (since 2021!) The early ones were dicey, unskilled but heartfelt, the latter ones actually good!

What has been your primary inspiration in writing music?

Our first EP in 2015 was inspired by having, for the first time, a few free weeks to write and record between other jobs! Amazing what a little free time can do to allow creativity back in. You can hear some of the early hybrid electronic-tinged indie rock. The upcoming EP Time Flies By has been inspired by observing people on their way to work and at work. If we open our eyes we see people commit inordinate time to work that might pay the bills, but that doesn’t light their fire. Our antidote to this is to soar on creative joy and hope.

What is a song you wish you had written yourself?

Iris by the Goo Goo Dolls

If there was any moment in your career you could relive, what would it be?

My early career was spent in Kenya doing various jobs including leading expeditions, diving and logistics - these were crazy times but intense and fun. I wouldn’t say no to turning back the clock to then! Oh, and Neil and I started a band called The Racket which was suitably loud and quite punky - it quickly became the band to see!

Which artist would you most love to share a stage with?

As Streamer I think it would have to be either The Chemical Brothers or Underworld. Collaborating with them and enjoying their production would be epic! Amusing to us, the Underworld rehearse in a shed with lights and haze, as do we!

And is there an artist you would love to collaborate with as well?

David Gilmour - now that would be a treat! And Coldplay - thinking about their work with the Chainsmokers and Avicii. Both of these would be really exciting - combining our feel and indie trance approach with them would be very exciting.

Where do you see yourself in five years time?

Haha! Headlining some festival slots with massive production, a huge audience having a blast, and a great team around us on the journey! That’s the dream, we’re working on. As Noel Gallagher once said, “Music is a thing that changes people's lives ... You've got a duty to make music. If you can, you should.”
