Writer's picture: The Real DingThe Real Ding

After originally making their mark with their stunning debut single 'Amused And Confident' back in 2022, Italian outfit Sleepin' Grace are now making their eagerly-awaited return with the sweeping new offering 'Soul In Captivity'.

Capturing more of that broad and immersive indie-rock aesthetic they have built for themselves, 'Soul In Captivity' sees them return to the fold in fine form throughout. With its rich and tantalising textures perfectly set to some emotive vocals throughout, they are establishing themselves as one of the more alluring names on the rise right now.

So with the new single available to stream now, we sat down with them to find out more about their origins and influences over the years.

What was the first band or artist you fell in love with?

My first artist was Eminem, after listening to him I started to think about music professionally.

Did you ever form a band when you were younger and if so, what did they sound like?

No, I started just with some rap songs by myself. I started to write songs when I was 12, and later I began to compose music for my songs.

What has been your primary inspiration in writing music?

My primary inspiration for music was everything related to West Coast Hip Hop music. Later I appreciated other musical genres such as rock and roll, specifically alternative rock and post-punk.

What is a song you wish you had written yourself?

A song I wish I had written is Transmission by Joy Division. I love everything of that song. The voice by Ian Curtis is so special, and the sound is something unique.

If there was any moment in your career you could relive, what would it be?

Maybe the first time I recorded a song in the studio. It was so special for me because I felt a strange sensation.

Which artist would you most love to share a stage with?

I'd like to share the stage with Molchat Doma. They are so good, I love their music and their approach to people.

And is there an artist you would love to collaborate with as well?

I'd like to collaborate with other bands such as Radiohead, Ploho, or something similar because I like these particular sounds. I hope one day I can collaborate with them.

Where do you see yourself in five years time?

I see myself with great success and a good career in music.
