GET TO KNOW: Samuel Oscar

Having already garnered more than fourteen million streams on YouTube alone thanks to run of impressive releases of late, emerging artist Samuel Oscar returns once again to offer up his tender new single 'Where's My Love Gonna Go?'

Channelling a wonderfully warm and groove-laden direction this time around, 'Where's My Love Gonna Go?' makes for a beautifully heartfelt listen. With his sweet and soulful voice layered across a sweeping production throughout, this is certainly one we can see ourselves coming back to again and again.

So with the new single available to stream now, we sat down with him to find out more about his background and influences over the years.

What was the first band or artist you fell in love with?

Looking back on it now, funnily enough, it was Backstreet Boys. I even have old videos of my younger self dressing up like the band, lip syncing to their songs. Will I ever show them to the public? Over my dead body.

Did you ever form a band when you were younger and if so, what did they sound like?

Yes, I did! I formed a band when I was around 15. There were five of us, and I was the lead guitarist/backing vocals. We were called The Bright Knights – amazing name right? I am still not sure today what exactly was the genre of music we were going for, possibly indie/rock. And as far as sounding goes, we were pretty horrible to be honest. The band’s first and only concert was in front of the whole school. I was so nervous that I ended up only playing one chord the entire time. This is why you rehearse beforehand.

What has been your primary inspiration in writing music?

I guess mostly life experiences, usually impactful events on myself. Other times I would be inspired to write songs based on the life experiences of my friends.

What is a song you wish you had written yourself?

Ugh, so many come to mind, but I would say if I had to pick one – “Bohemian Rhapsody”. I know it’s very basic but the structure of the song and the transitions are so brilliant. If I made something even close to that song, I would count myself the luckiest person in the world.

If there was any moment in your career you could relive, what would it be?

When I finished making the first song that I actually liked. That feeling was indescribable.

Which artist would you most love to share a stage with?

Frank Ocean. Would love to see him in a concert, but be a part of it? Singing “Self Control”, “Sweet Life”, etc. – that would be a dream.

And is there an artist you would love to collaborate with as well?

It would be benny blanco. He is also an amazing songwriter/producer.

Where do you see yourself in five years time?

I see myself more content and honest with my songwriting. I’m constantly striving to improve my music and inspire and connect with people through my music. I would ultimately love to perform live in a concert for those who enjoy my music.
