After returning earlier this year to deliver his much-loved EP 'Games', fast-rising California-based rapper Onone is back at it once again as he unveils his pulsing new single 'Hookin Up In The Club'.
Conjuring more of that bold and progressive hip-hop sound he is known for, 'Hookin Up In The Club' makes for a riveting listen throughout. With such a bold and inventive grasp over his direction from start to finish, he is returning with one of his more captivating cuts to date.
So with the new single available to stream now, we sat down with him to find out more about his origins and influences over the years.
What was the first band or artist you fell in love with?
The first band or artist I ever fell in love with as a kid was probably My Chemical Romance. I had a phase where I’d only ever wear emo band tees.
Did you ever form a band when you were younger and if so, what did they sound like?
I’ve never been in a band before I started making music in my garage on my own in 2019. Now my producers and engineers are all a part of what makes up “OnOne”.
What has been your primary inspiration in writing music?
My primary inspiration in writing is definitely the whole Buffet boys, Lil Peep, and $uicideboy$ scene. The come up of all of these underground artists was really inspiring to me.
What is a song you wish you had written yourself?
A song I wish I had written myself would without a doubt be “Marvins Room” by Drake. It's a masterpiece. I can't name a song like it.
If there was any moment in your career you could relive, what would it be?
A moment I’d relive in my career would be my first ever concert I did with my buddy Morpenthouse. I was really nervous all day but it was really fun. I did a weird two step thing with my feet all night and if I could go back I’d tell myself to relax but I did have the most poppin’ set of the night regardless.
Which artist would you most love to share a stage with?
An artist I’d love to share the stage with one day is definitely Pouya. I’ve seen him live a few times and the energy is unmatchable. It was the first concert I ever went to.
And is there an artist you would love to collaborate with as well?
One day I’d like to collab with $uicideboy$. It’s a goal honestly. I started making my own music because of them and a collab would definitely be a dream come true.
Where do you see yourself in five years time?
In five years I truly see myself in a place where all of my hard work is finally paying off and I can do what I love, make better music, and help more people.
