After originally making himself a household name with his breakthrough International hit 'Cheerleader', OMI is now looking to pursue a more atmospheric direction as he returns with his shimmering new release 'Formula'.
Opting for a smoother and more heartfelt direction this time around, 'Formula' makes for a riveting return to form throughout. With his rich and sultry voice layered across a humbled production from start to finish, he looks set to continue his impressive ascent with this vibrant new delight.
So with the new single available to stream now, we sat down with him to find out more about his background and influences over the years.
What/who was the first band or artist you fell in love with?
I first started out listening to rap music back in high school. The likes of Tupac, BIG and Slim AKA Eminem could be heard blaring in my headphones if the room was quiet enough Did you ever form a band when you were younger and if so, what did they sound like?
No I was never a part of a band, would’ve been cool though. What has been your primary inspiration in writing music?
My inspirations are quite random, they are very spontaneous. It’s as if the inspirations find me as opposed to me finding them, there’s never any order or selected time either. What is a song you wish you had written yourself?
I wish I had written “heal the world” by Michael Jackson. If there was any moment in your career you could relive, what would it be?
A moment I wish I could relive is the first time hearing my song on the radio. Which artist would you most love to share a stage with?
I would love to share a stage with Burna Boy. I’ve seen him perform live and he and his band were an absolute inspiration. And is there an artist you would love to collaborate with as well?
I would love to do a song with Tems, I absolutely love her voice. Where do you see yourself in five years?
In five years I see myself at the top of my game still being my own boss moving at my own pace and building my empire in silence.
