Bangalore-based producer Mr. Sham G opens 2026 with ‘Starcrossed Love’, a liquid drum & bass release that pairs rolling breaks and deep, resonant bass with an emotional core rarely this finely balanced. Floating on ethereal female vocals and shimmering melodic progressions, the track moves effortlessly between club propulsion and late-night introspection, offering both dancefloor momentum and reflective vulnerability.
Beyond the music, Shamir Genomal’s story adds further dimension to the release. A 41-year-old father of three and CEO of a publicly listed apparel company in India, he splits his time between boardrooms and breakbeats, quietly redefining what an electronic music career can look like.
With past releases on DNBB Records, Kush Records, and Ledge Sounds, and a clear ambition to reach the top tier of global producers, ‘Starcrossed Love’ stands as both a romantic narrative of love against the odds and a statement of intent from an artist proving that passion, discipline, and emotional depth know no age limit.
What was the first band or artist you fell in love with?
Nas – Illmatic
That record changed how I understood rhythm and storytelling. It was the first time I heard vulnerability, intelligence, and grit sitting in the same pocket.
Did you ever form a band when you were younger and if so, what did they sound like?
I didn’t form a band, but at 16/17 I was emceeing at hip-hop nights at a spot called Sparks. This was before hip-hop had really taken off in India.
The sound was nostalgic East Coast boom bap jazzy samples, dusty drums, lyrical focus. My flow was heavily inspired by Nas, Big L, and Big Pun, highly technical, but always rooted in feel.
What has been your primary inspiration in writing music?
It’s been my therapy, my escape, and my way of restoring inner peace while carrying the weight of family and business leadership.
At the same time, I’m deeply driven by mastery. I want to stand among the top tier of drum and bass producers in the world, not for ego, but to prove to myself that growth has no limits.
What is a song you wish you had written yourself?
“Cold Expanse” – Artificial Intelligence & Makoto
It captures atmosphere and emotion in such a restrained, elegant way. There’s depth without excess, that balance really resonates with me.
If there was any moment in your career you could relive, what would it be?
The day I got my first record deal with DNBB Records. South America’s largest drum and bass label. I’ll never forget that moment, it was truly surreal. It wasn’t just validation; it was proof that the late nights, the doubt, the sacrifices were worth it.
Which artist would you most love to share a stage with?
Calibre.
I saw him live at Liquicity and it was a masterclass in subtlety, soul and less is more. He doesn’t chase hype, he commands presence through his quiet confidence and depth. That’s powerful.
And is there an artist you would love to collaborate with as well?
Thievery Corporation
They create an atmosphere in a way that feels cinematic and timeless. I’m deliberately choosing someone outside of drum & bass, that’s where the real magic can happen.
Where do you see yourself in five years time?
Performing at Liquicity and being part of that ecosystem as an artist.
Beyond that, I want to play a meaningful role in nurturing the next wave of drum & bass talent globally, especially helping young producers who are struggling with mental health find strength and community through music.
Long term, I envision a global live production, a theatre-scale show blending ethnic artforms, local culture, live instrumentation, and bass music into one immersive experience. The concept is called Bass Nation, the ultimate fusion of heritage and future sound.
