The Real Ding
GET TO KNOW: Midori Jaeger

Following on from the enormous support for her debut EP 'Look At Us', which landed praise with Jazz FM, BBC Radio London, Bandcamp, Mahogany and Somewhere Soul, along with her recently released offering 'See' earlier this year, cellist, singer and composer Midori Jaeger has returned once again with her captivating new cut 'Touch'.
Lifted from her forthcoming new EP, which is set to land in the coming months, 'Touch' makes for a beautifully tranquil example of her sound. With her own spellbinding and ethereal voice layered amongst a diverse array of instrumentation throughout, her new collection looks set to be one of her most alluring to date.
So with the new single available now, we sat down with her to find out more about her background and what has inspired her most over the years.

What was the first instrument you learned to play?
Piano.
What was the first album you remember owning?
Shania Twain ‘The Woman in Me’. I used to be obsessed with her.
Did you ever form a band when you were younger and if so, what did they sound like?
Yes when I was 13 I used to busk in the subway leading to South Ken tube with my friend Emily. I was on acoustic guitar and we both sang in harmony, noughties hits, a few Norah Jones songs, a few Christian hits like ‘Shine Jesus Shine’ as we found they got us more income (is that bad?) occasionally got given a Jehovah’s Witness pamphlet, mostly coins.
What is a song you wish you had written yourself?
'Keeps Me Alive' by Moses Sumney.
What has been the most thrilling moment about creating your own music?
Pretty standard answer - playing it with a full band!
And what about the most frustrating part?
Doing social media and admin. I probably do everything in a super long and slow way, thinking more than I need to, and it does my head in.
Which artist would you most love to share a stage with?
I’d love to play with MARO, a Portuguese musician/singer/songwriter who accompanied Jacob Collier in his last tour. I love her vibe and her writing.
Where do you see yourself in five years time?
Will have released an album, maybe 2, hopefully done a few tours :D Most importantly I’ll be loving whatever I’m doing, feeling creatively enthused and challenged, whatever form that takes!
