GET TO KNOW: Lola Aviva

After cementing herself with a flurry of fresh and euphoric gems these last few years, emerging artist Lola Aviva recently returned to deliver her rousing new offering 'Wait On The Steps'.

Capturing more of that warm and enticing neo-soul vibe she is known for, 'Wait On The Steps' makes for a wonderfully embracing listen. With her sweet and soulful voice riding a bed of shimmering brass-led production from start to finish, this is certainly one to kick back and relax to.

So with the new single doing the rounds, we sat down with her to find out more about her background and influences over the years.

What was the first band or artist you fell in love with?

I mean I’ve always loved the Beatles but as a young girl I grew up listening to my dad's 78s on his gramophone which had lots of Bing Crosby, Perry Como, Eartha Kitt, Peggy Lee, Ella Fitzgerald and Kitty Kallen.

Did you ever form a band when you were younger and if so, what did they sound like?

No, only in my head.

What has been your primary inspiration for music?

Any song with a good melody from the 1950s to now. I’m not a genre-based artist I love songs from every genre but I’m always drawn to songs with soul (not the genre but the sentiment) and songs with lyrics that show personalities.

What is a song you wish you had written yourself?

It’s too late by Carole king or any Carole king song. Or any Beatles song especially We can work it out.

If there was any moment in your career you could relive, what would it be?

My first time Performing on BBC radio on the Gaby Roslin and the first time I performed at my favourite venue The Spice Of Life in Soho.

Which artist would you most love to share a stage with?

It has to be Elvis! We would have a snarl off.

And is there an artist you would love to collaborate with as well?

There are many people I’d love to collaborate with but at the moment Tom Misch, the Dap-Kings, Jake Bugg and The Noisettes.

Where do you see yourself in five years time?

I see myself as a recognised songwriter, recording artist, live act and all round diva.
