After following up her much-loved 2020 LP 'Empty Life Syndrome' with a string of impactful singles these last few years, Pittsburgh-based artist Lexa Terrestrial is back once again to deliver her pulsing new effort 'X Files'.
Bringing back more of that bold and energetic direction she is known for, 'X Files' makes for a brilliantly bold and infectious listen from start to finish. With her fresh and enigmatic flow riding across a driven production throughout, she is certainly looking to turn some heads with this one.
So with the new single available to stream now, we sat down with her to find out more about her origins and influences over the years.
What was the first band or artist you fell in love with?
Blink 182 OR the Spice Girls!!! (obsessed with Mel C).
Did you ever form a band when you were younger and if so, what did they sound like?
I did! I was maybe 10. It was like TLC meets No Doubt. My friends mostly did it for the fun of feeling like they were kinda like Josie & The Pussy Cats but I was the one more concerned w/ Playing the instruments, writing the lyrics.. we were kids though.. It was fun. What has been your primary inspiration in writing music?
I'm an only child. I spent a lot of my time thinking, processing the world in unique ways & no matter what I always seem to find something to write about. I am also into philosophy, quantum physics, science & history too. So I'm kind of a nerd. Writing lyrics is kind of like a psychological release mixed w/ a challenge.
What is a song you wish you had written yourself?
I think about this a lot. There's so many Lana Del Rey songs I uncovered recently & said... to myself " I Wish I wrote this... " for the first time. I also heard Lavender Haze by Taylor Swift & thought the same thing.
I think that about Doja Cat's Get Into It, Rosalia's "SAOKO" I think if there's any song I wish I wrote it would be Michael Jackson Thriller & that sounds like my type of song too!! I listen to everyone's stuff & think "I wish I could do that"... If there was any moment in your career you could relive, what would it be?
When I won my first Hip-Hop competition at 20 years old. Which sounds old but it's not. I dressed kind of like Madonna, got on stage & performed an unexpected Trap/Drill song. That place went nuts. I didn't fully realise because I was so focused and in my head. I also want to go back to a show I did in 2017 because I felt very good and I want to feel that way again.
Which artist would you most love to share a stage with? The artists I'm currently sharing the stage with... which is Lys Scott & Princess Nostalgia. They literally inspire me more than most. But if I had to choose anyone else I'd say JID, Scarlxrd, Ghostmane, maybe Wiz Khalifa. Who knows. Nicki Minaj!
And is there an artist you would love to collaborate with as well?
Me & Tech N9ne were supposed to collaborate on "X-FILES" actually. So I'm gonna say that. I don't play. Where do you see yourself in five years time?
Hopefully still alive. and Not being sick everyday. Making a TON of money off of what I love to do.
I hope to continue to establish myself & garner even more resources to do what I want creatively & also help myself & others with my condition.
I work hard & I’ve made a lot of sacrifices and I hope to see those pay off.
