Having already cemented themselves as individual artists with a flurry of impressive releases these last few years, Wichita-based producer Kkenji and rapper TROE are now teaming up to deliver their pulsing new single 'EMMM'.
Lifted from their forthcoming collaborative EP 'Mama, I'm A Rapper', their newest jam makes for a brilliantly fresh ad inventive listen. Filled with bold and bouncing beats, a soaring energy, and killer flows throughout, 'EMMM' is definitely one that deserves to be played very loud.
So with the new single available now, we sat down with them to find out more about their background and influences over the years.
What was the first band or artist you fell in love with?
Kkenji: I think the first band that caught my attention was All American Rejects. I remember being six years old or something like that, listening to their songs over and over again. Their melodies were just so catchy, I couldn't get it out of my little head at the time.
Did you ever form a band when you were younger and if so, what did they
sound like?
Kkenji: I always wanted to form a band growing up, but never found anyone else as a kid that wanted to join me on the journey.
What has been your primary inspiration in writing music?
Kkenji: The mood I'm in that day primarily dictates how fast my beats will be as well as the instruments I will be using to cook up during that session. My mood may even change halfway through the session and then I'll end up with multiple different types of beats for different artists haha.
What is a song you wish you had written yourself?
TROE: Iced out gold chain by Guapdad 4000.
If there was any moment in your career you could relive, what would it be?
Kkenji: Me making beats for the first time ever, I can't get over the first time I laid out a good bass line. Best feeling in the world.
Which artist would you most love to share a stage with?
TROE: Post Malone, he seems like an easy-going, wholesome guy.
And is there an artist you would love to collaborate with as well?
TROE: NLE Choppa.
Kkenji: Oliver Francis
Where do you see yourself in five years time?
Kkenji: In five years hopefully I'll be able to just be doing music and shows full-time. Right now I'm stuck only doing the music thing part-time as a side gig to get money. A lot can happen in five years though, I hope I'll make a music video by then haha.
