GET TO KNOW: KINGZMN

After first establishing themselves with a string of bright and enticing cuts over the last few years, Canada-based duo KINGZMN have now returned to deliver their captivating new studio album 'Where Do We Go From Here?'

Channelling a smooth and tranquil RnB groove that borrows from the 80s synth-pop sound, 'Where Do We Go From Here?' makes for a wonderfully warm listen. Filled with sweeping hooks, sensual tones, and some effervescent vocals layered throughout, these guys are certainly set for big things in the months to come.

So with the new record out now, we sat down with them to find out more about their origins and influences over the years.

What was the first instrument you learned to play?

Does the recorder count? (Laughs) The first instrument both of us learned was the piano

What was the first album you remember owning?

Zanna - The first album I ever owned was “Get Rich or Die Tryin” by 50 cent, which was passed down to me by my older brother. Thien - My first album I ever owned was “Trouble” by Akon. My brother also gave me this album, we were too young at the time to be buying them ourselves!

Did you ever form a band when you were younger and if so, what did they

sound like?

We both actually formed an electronic dj duo when we were both younger known as “BeatBoys”. This is back when we were known as an EDM dj act. Ahh the good ol’ days.

What is a song you wish you had written yourself?

Thien - “Lonely” by Akon is definitely a song I used to sing to as a kid, so it would definitely have been cool to write that. The lyrics are so raw I feel like you can really hear the pain in his voice. Zanna - “If I Ain’t Got You” by Alicia Keys is one of my all time favourite songs especially when she performs it on the piano. I just wish it was something I could’ve poured my own heart and soul into creating it.

What has been the most thrilling moment about creating your own music?

Seeing other people listen to our music and seeing people's reactions when performing live is something that is the most rewarding thing. Having people come up to us and telling us how much they loved our song or how it related to something they were going through.

And what about the most frustrating part?

I wouldn’t say anything is really frustrating in terms of the creative process but more so in the post release process. Everything besides the music making process can be frustrating at times.

Which artist would you most love to share a stage with?

This is a tough one cause there’s so many different artists that we like for so many different reasons. But if we had to choose a couple Drake, The Weeknd, Majid Jordan, Bryson Tiller are just a few.

Where do you see yourself in five years time?

5 years is a long time! But we definitely see ourselves not only making a living but being worldwide artists that have fans all over the world relating to our music. Also being on tour and performing for all our fans!
