After establishing himself with a flurry of fresh and euphoric offerings over the last few years, singer and songwriter Jim McHugh makes a stunning return with his vibrant new single 'Her Love'.

Channelling a warm and sweeping aesthetic for his newest effort, 'Her Love' is a romantically-charged return from start to finish. Showcasing his sweet and soaring vocals throughout, this new one makes for a wonderfully compassionate listen throughout.

So with the new single doing the rounds, we sat down with him to find out more about his origins and influences over the years.

What was the first instrument you learned to play?

All of my siblings were sent for piano lessons except me, I was sent to guitar lessons.

What was the first album you remember owning?

I remember buying Led Zepplin’s four symbols album on tape. The main reason for buying it was because my guitar teacher was showing me Stairway to Heaven.

Did you ever form a band when you were younger and if so, what did they sound like?

I was in the same band from when I was 15 to around 25 so we had 10 good years of fun and frolics. We were a mix of rock and grunge.

What is a song you wish you had written yourself?

I love Neil Young so I think Harvest Moon is a beauty.

What has been the most thrilling moment about creating your own music?

Definitely hearing the final tracks after they’ve been through all the stages from initial ideas, melody or guitar riff to a final song. And then to hear people singing or mentioning the words back to you. I love that.

And what about the most frustrating part?

I find the promotion side of music is very difficult. To get your music heard is tough when there’s already so many great bands out there.

Which artist would you most love to share a stage with?

So many to choose from but I’d love to get on stage with Damien Dempsey and bang out some lively tunes.

Where do you see yourself in five years time?

I really hope to continue my drive to improve as an artist all the time in terms of my song writing, producing and performance. So in 5 years time I hope I will have another 2 albums under my belt that are as good if not better than any other major artist.
