What was the first instrument you learned to play?
I attempted saxophone for literally one day in elementary school. I guess I didn’t “learn” how to play it but I tried. Oh well. There went my huge saxaphone career. Biggest regret of my life. I fully learned how to play my first instrument at 13 which was the guitar.
What was the first album you remember owning?
I don’t remember fully but I’m assuming it was probably “No Strings Attached” by N*SYNC. I was a big fan. I mean big, big, big. Shout out to all my fellow 90s kids.
Did you ever form a band when you were younger and if so, what did they sound like?
Yes. I had a couple bands. The first one was called The Political Monkeys and we played all around the Dallas/Ft. Worth metroplex when I was a teenager. I started it with my neighbors. We sort of sounded like a less good version of the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
What is a song you wish you had written yourself?
“Love Machine” by The Miracles
What has been the most thrilling moment about creating your own music?
I’m in the driver’s seat and I get to take this thing anywhere I want it to go. It’s very freeing.
And what about the most frustrating part?
A lot of the time I’m flying by the seat of my pants. I have a somewhat chaotic creative brain. It’s very unorganized and sometimes I don’t know what to focus on because I’m an expert at overwhelming myself. Yay anxiety.
Which artist would you most love to share a stage with?
Bruno Mars is definitely up there. I also love a lot of classic artists from before my time. It’s been a dream of mine to collaborate with Daryl Hall and John Oates for a while. I’m not giving up hope.
Where do you see yourself in five years time?
I see myself playing more festivals and making the world dance.
