After cementing himself with a wealth of highly-praised offerings this past decade, progressive rapper Diggis is now back once again to offer up his breezy new single 'Straight Chillin' Pt2 Be About The Balance'.
Channelling more of that smooth and laidback hip-hop groove he is known for, 'Straight Chillin' Pt2 Be About The Balance' makes for an incredibly warm and inviting listen. With his rich and driven flow riding across a sun-kissed production from start to finish, he is certainly looking to chill us out with this one.
So with the new single available to stream now, we sat down with him to find out more about his origins and influences over the years.
What was the first band or artist you fell in love with?
Definitely Cypress Hill (at age 10 haha).
Did you ever form a band when you were younger and if so, what did they sound like?
Yes, we were called Boom Bap Collective. And we sounded like DJ Muggs’ production ha Gritty dusty live boom bap Hip Hop.
What has been your primary inspiration in writing music?
I would say the tropical rainforest I grew up and live in, other inspirational music and artists, and global events and achievements and issues.
What is a song you wish you had written yourself?
House of Pain - Jump Around. Or one by Q-Tip and A Tribe Called Quest, probably Electric Relaxation or Can I Kick It or Jazz (We’ve Got). That was hard to try to choose just one.
If there was any moment in your career you could relive, what would it be?
Maybe my first live performance in New York City. Or when I supported Bone Thugs n Harmony back in 2010.
Which artist would you most love to share a stage with?
Q-Tip or Busta Rhymes or Mos Def / Yasiin Bey Again, very hard to try to choose just one!
And is there an artist you would love to collaborate with as well?
Where do you see yourself in five years' time?
Still in love with creating music, and touring the world regularly.
