GET TO KNOW: Davi The Mavi

After spending the last few months building and cultivating his sound, 14-year-old newcomer Davi The Mavi is now looking to introduce himself to the wider world with his impactful debut single 'That Night'.

Adopting a bold and driven hip-hop aesthetic for his initial offering, 'That Night' makes for a stellar introduction to his sound so far. With his vibrant flow layered across a pulsing production throughout, he is kicking things off with a wildly enjoyable opening number here.

So with the new track available to stream now, we sat down with him to find out more about his origins and influences over the years.

What inspired you to start creating music at such a young age?

I've always been surrounded by music, so it naturally became a part of me. My older brother, Ronzoni Hines, was in Aston Performing Arts Academy (APAA) back in 2015, and seeing him perform & create music got me hooked. He was the one who introduced me to creating, I started playing around with melodies, sounds, making beats, and that just sparked something in me. From then on, I knew I wanted to make music too.

Who was the first artist that made you think, "I want to do that too"?

I was really impressed by Eminem from a very young age, even as early as six or seven years old. Eminem's influence wasn't just about the music but also about the raw energy and skill that he brought to the table. His ability to rap at lightning speed, with intricate wordplay and a flow that could switch up effortlessly, was something that left a lasting impression on me.

Your debut single, "That Night," has such a high-energy vibe. What was the creative process like for that track?

The creative process for "That Night" was all about channelling a specific vibe and energy. I started with the beat and everything flowed from there. I’ve always been a huge fan of Travis Scott, so I wanted to create something that had that same intense, atmospheric energy. I spent a lot of time experimenting with different sounds and beats in FL Studio, trying to find a groove that felt right.

Once I had the beat down, I started playing around with melodies. I’d hum different tunes over the beat, trying to capture that feeling of being in the moment, like you're out with your friends, and the night is full of possibilities. I wanted the melody to reflect that sense of excitement and unpredictability.

Lyrically, I wanted the track to feel raw and real, almost like a snapshot of a wild night out. I didn’t want to overthink the lyrics because my goal was to keep them spontaneous and in the moment. I recorded different takes, trying out various lines and flows until something clicked. It was important for me to capture the energy of the beat in the lyrics, so I made sure the words matched the intensity and rhythm of the music.

Throughout the process, I kept going back to the track, making small tweaks, adding a sound here, removing something there. I’m a bit of a perfectionist, so I kept listening to it over and over, adjusting the mix until it felt just right. The hook was especially important to me because I wanted it to be catchy and something people could instantly vibe with. I knew I had to nail that part to make the track stand out.

I also wanted "That Night" to have a cinematic feel, almost like it’s telling a story through the music. The beat changes and the shifts in energy throughout the track are meant to take the listener on a journey, just like a night out that has its ups and downs. I wanted the listener to feel like they’re right there with me, experiencing everything in real-time.

In the end, the process was a mix of inspiration and careful crafting. I’m proud of how it turned out because it represents not just my influences but also my unique perspective. It’s a track that’s meant to be felt as much as it’s heard.

If you could collaborate with any artist right now, who would it be and why?

I'd love to work with Travis Scott and Don Toliver. They're both pushing boundaries with their sound, and I feel like we could create something really unique together. Their music is fresh, and it would be amazing to see how our styles blend.

Who would you most love to share a stage with when you start performing live?

Travis Scott, hands down. His energy on stage is unreal, and it would be incredible to perform alongside him. I think it would be an unforgettable experience.

As a young artist, what do you think makes your music stand out from others?

I think what sets me apart is my blend of influences. I’ve got that British edge mixed with American vibes, and I pull inspiration from all sorts of music. Whether it’s hip-hop, trap, or even Algerian music like Tinarawen, I’m always looking for new sounds to incorporate into my music. I think that diversity is what makes my music unique.

What’s been the biggest challenge for you as a new artist, and how have you overcome it?

Finding a mixing engineer who really gets my vision has been tough. I’m currently working with an American engineer, and it’s going well, but it took some time to find someone who understood what I was going for. Communication is key, and I’ve learned to be clear about what I want to achieve with my music.

Where do you see yourself and your music career in the next five years?

In five years, I see myself living in the US, performing with some of my idols, and doing shows around the world. I want to keep growing as an artist and reach as many people as possible with my music.

If you could give one piece of advice to other young people who want to get into music, what would it be?

Don’t overthink it, just dive in. Don’t be scared to try new things, even if it feels risky. Experiment with different sounds and styles, because that’s how you find your unique voice.

Music is all about expressing yourself, so don’t hold back.
