GET TO KNOW: D. Green

After returning with his stunning comeback single 'Gravitational Pull' last year, LA-based artist D. Green is now looking to get us in the mood with his sultry new groove 'Made For Loving'.

Honing a beautifully warm and invigorating soul-inspired aesthetic for his newest outing, 'Made For Loving' makes for a wondrous listen from start to finish. With his sweet and tender vocals layered across a dreamy production throughout, he is returning with one of his most heartfelt efforts to date here.

So with the new single available to stream now, we sat down with him to find out more about his origins and what has been inspiring him most lately.

What was the first band or artist you fell in love with?

Growing up with the soulful songs from my parents' and grandparents' era, it's hard to point to just one artist. But I would say it was the timeless allure of the Motown sound that I fell in love with.  I was amazed by the joy the music brought to my family. Seeing the happiness amid challenges fueled my desire to create music that resonates and uplifts, just like those iconic Motown hits did for my family.

Did you ever form a band when you were younger and if so, what did they sound like?

No, I didn't form a band when I was younger. I chose the solo path. Finding like-minded individuals in my hometown was challenging, but the dream of being in a band was always there. It wasn't until last year that I finally connected with a group of dedicated musicians, and together, we're crafting something truly special. Stay tuned for that.

What has been your primary inspiration in writing music?

Writing songs has always been my therapy, a sacred space where I pour out my soul. I thrive on storytelling and creativity, and music became the canvas where my thoughts found a voice. It's the profound joy of being heard by those who might resonate with my journey. There's something beautiful about connecting through shared experiences.

What is a song you wish you had written yourself?

If there's one song I wish I had written myself, it's Anita Baker's 'Giving You the Best That I Got.' Its timeless beauty has always resonated with me, and as I grow older, its depth becomes even more profound. I aspire to craft something equally enduring, a piece that stands the test of time just like that masterpiece.

If there was any moment in your career you could relive, what would it be?

Honestly, if I could relive any moment in my career, it would be opening for J. Cole at a college show. It was a pivotal opportunity and a chance to pick his brain about his journey. Now, with hindsight, I appreciate and understand more of the wisdom he shared during that insightful conversation.

Which artist would you most love to share a stage with?

For sure, sharing the stage with Anderson. Paak or Leon Bridges would be a dream come true. They've been major inspirations for my latest work, reigniting the joy in my songwriting and music creation. It would be a full-circle moment, a chance to celebrate the artists who've fueled my creative journey and this direction.

And is there an artist you would love to collaborate with as well?

One of my 2024 goals is to secure a collaboration with Anderson.Paak. I'm speaking it into existence as I grind on my journey. If you know anyone who can help make it happen, let's connect and see if we can pull this thing off! It would be an incredible experience, and I promise it will be great!

Where do you see yourself in five years time?

In five years, I envision myself sharing my experiences, successes, and failures with others chasing this dream-like me while running a new-age music business conglomerate. It's all about catering to those with immense talent but lacking the resources needed to make their music truly shine. I truly wish I had that. I still wish I had that to this day. I want to be that for others. I'll still be crafting my own music, but my focus will expand to writing for various brands and collaborating with fellow artists. I'm excited about what the future holds.
