After an impressive run of releases under his belt these last few years, emerging artist Covo is back to his vibrant ways once again with the shimmering new single 'Plant Dad'.
Honing another heady dose of warm and invigorating aesthetics for his newest outing, 'Plant Dad' continues that innovative streak he has been developing recently. With its warm and inviting textures perfectly set against his emotive vocals throughout, this new one sees him broaden his immersive direction of late.
So with the new single available to stream now, we sat down with him to find out more about his origins and influences over the years.
What was the first band or artist you fell in love with?
Linkin Park. My older sister was really into them and I would “borrow” her CDs to rip my own copy so I could obsess over them in my room without her knowing.
Did you ever form a band when you were younger and if so, what did they sound like?
I did in high school! We wanted to sound like all the popular post-hardcore bands like Attack! Attack!, I See Stars, and Abandon All Ships. But we had no idea what we were doing and were more interested in being “seen” as a band rather than creating original music.
What has been your primary inspiration in writing music?
I just love chasing that feeling you get when you’re singing along to a song that you truly resonate with. And it’s so cool to create something that can give others that feeling as well.
What is a song you wish you had written yourself?
The song “I’m Enough” by Oscar Scheller is the song I wish I wrote myself because I feel like it perfectly sums up my feelings at times. I literally got back into music because it inspired me so much.
If there was any moment in your career you could relive, what would it be?
Showing my mom my new music after I got over my screamo phrase. Seeing her genuinely react and enjoying the music felt great. Before, she was supportive of my passion for music, but there’s not many mothers out there that are into post-hardcore music.
Which artist would you most love to share a stage with?
Basically any neo soul or vapor twitch musicians- incredible singers like Parissa Tosif from Vallis Alps or BAYNK would be so cool to share a stage with.
And is there an artist you would love to collaborate with as well?
If I could sit in a studio and collaborate with RAC, that would probably be a lifetime achievement. That guy is incredibly talented and has a unique sound while still solidly identifying as pop. Something much easier said than done imo.
Where do you see yourself in five years time?
Hopefully I will have quit my software engineering day job by then and will be spending my days pursuing music full-time.
