Having already cemented himself with a wealth of bold and adventurous releases these last few years, Long Island-based rapper BLAME BO$ANOVAH recently returned to deliver his new mixtape 'Bread & Circus', showcased by the new single ‘Hump Day’ (The1wāê).
Collaborating with fellow artist Nobody The Initiate for the release, ‘Hump Day’ (The1wāê) makes for an incredibly infectious listen. With his fresh and driven flow riding across a spellbinding production throughout, he is certainly looking to turn some heads with this one.
So with the new single available to stream now, we sat down with the duo to find out more about their background and influences over the years.
What/who was the first band or artist you fell in love with?
Blame - Rihanna
Nobody - Jim Morrison and The Doors
Did you ever form a band when you were younger and if so, what did they sound like?
Blame - No but I played a piano once; I didn’t like it.
Nobody - Yes. I played bass guitar for almost ten years while growing up in a band called Destiny or Design. We sounded like a mix of Taking Back Sunday and Muse.
What has been your primary inspiration in writing music?
Blame - Real life is my biggest inspiration as I like to write honest lyrics from true experiences and real emotions.
Nobody - Real life experiences are definitely our biggest inspiration when writing, but I have been an obsessed music lover my whole life, so when working on production I pull from a wide range of influences but often inspiration strikes us naturally in the studio.
What is a song you wish you had written yourself?
Blame - Paper Doll by John Mayer. I never heard it before but i know it’s about Taylor Swift and I always wanted to date her. She’s not even my type, I just want a break up song written about me.
Nobody - Interesting question. I don’t think I’ve ever heard someone’s song and thought I wish I wrote that, but someone new whose genre bending I love is RMR. I wouldn’t say I wish I wrote any of his songs, but I think he’s pushing boundaries and I love singing along to his music. His newest song “Crazy” with Ryan Lewis is awesome.
If there was any moment in your career you could relive, what would it be?
Blame - There’s not much I’ve done so far I could say was anything crazy, but definitely stepping in a real booth for the first time made me realize this is what I wanna be doing.
Nobody - Well we’re still early in our journey so we largely have our sites set on the future still, but something that happens every so often is that I sometimes get chills while BLAME is recording a new song and that feeling in the studio is just something we try to naturally and consistently recreate.
Which artist would you most love to share a stage with?
Blame - Experiencing being on stage with anybody is what I’m here for. I’ll share a stage with anybody as long as we’re vibing and having a good time.
Nobody - What BLAME said, and also Kid Cudi.
And is there an artist you would love to collaborate with as well?
Blame - Rubi Rose.
Nobody - Honestly so many, but at the top of the list for me is I would love to one day work with Kid Cudi and his producer Dot Da Genius in some capacity, and also Post Malone cause he seems like a genuinely cool down to earth guy that would be fun to hang out and create with.
Where do you see yourself in five years?
Blame - Anywhere but here.
Nobody - I see BLAME as one of the biggest hip hop artists in the world, and I see us regularly touring the world playing in front of large crowds in as many different cities as possible as often as we can.
