GET TO KNOW: Belanu

After recently returning to deliver his eagerly-awaited new studio album 'Bustin' The Shell' earlier this year, Swiss artist Belanu continues the support for his latest LP with the swaggering new single 'Watching You Again'.

Channelling the same vibrant grooves as the likes of Lenny Kravitz and Jimi Hendrix for his latest outing, 'Watching You Again' makes for an incredibly smooth and enjoyable listen. With its shimmering guitar hooks set perfectly to his passionate vocal style throughout, he is certainly looking to get our hips shaking with this one.

So with the new single available to stream now, we sat down with him to find out more about his origins and influences over the years.

What was the first band or artist you fell in love with?

My father had a large record collection and always played a lot of music at home. The first band I fell in love with was The Beatles. Their album Revolver was the first vinyl record I bought with my pocket money. I was 8 years old at the time.

Did you ever form a band when you were younger and if so, what did they sound like?

I played guitar in the school band but didn't form my own band for a long time because I was more focussed on football in my youth. I played in the top youth league in Switzerland and didn't have time to form my own band. The current band is actually my first real band.

What has been your primary inspiration in writing music?

To express my feelings and thoughts musically. I am a natural songwriter who writes at least one song a week without any pressure. It's a part of me. Going two weeks without writing a song feels very strange. I also find it inspiring to listen to other songs by different musicians. Sometimes I'm a bit jealous and wish that I had written the song I've just heard and tried to write a better song. It's a bit of a competition for me because I want to develop further and write better and better songs.

What is a song you wish you had written yourself?

Castles Made Of Sand by Jimi Hendrix. Last weekend I listened to the album Axis Bold As Love and every time I hear this song I'm positively speechless. Lyrics, guitar, bass, and drums are all so beautiful.

If there was any moment in your career you could relive, what would it be?

Last summer I was able to play at the biggest festival in my hometown of Bern in Switzerland at the "Gurten Festival". All my family and friends were there, and we had so much fun playing that gig.

Which artist would you most love to share a stage with?

I'm a big Oasis fan, so I'd love to play guitar for Liam Gallagher. But unfortunately, John Squire is already there.

And is there an artist you would love to collaborate with as well?

I love funky dance music, so I would take Dua Lipa. She is great!

Where do you see yourself in five years time?

Having at least 3 more albums out, playing bigger stages and touring internationally.
