Having already established herself as a dark and progressive name emerging on the alt-pop scene of late, Dutch artist ANN has now returned to deliver her atmospheric new offering 'Medusa'.
Inspired by the likes of Sakima, AVIVA, Luna Shadows, and Troye Sivan, 'Medusa' sees her return in fine form. With its rich and soaring textures layered around her captivating voice, this new effort showcases her as a strong and vibrant name worth taking notice of.
So with the new single available now, we sat down with her to find out more about her background and what has inspired her most over the years.

What was the first instrument you learned to play?
I started singing when I was 3 years old. So my voice was really my very first instrument. I can now accompany myself on the piano, but do I really have a talent for it? not yet anyway. It works where it should, I would like to learn it even better.
What was the first album you remember owning?
The first album I can remember is an album by K3. This will be unknown to many, but in the Netherlands and Belgium these girls are truly iconic. It is a group consisting of 3 girls, who make pop songs that are very popular with children. I think every Dutch girl, and probably plenty of boys too, had a CD of these girls.
Did you ever form a band when you were younger and if so, what did they sound like?
When I was really young, I wasn't really into bands. I knew I wanted to be on stage, but I came from a small village, and you just didn't have many fellow musicians there. So the very first band with my own music I had was at the conservatory. Back then I was a bit more of an indie folk fan. So we made music that can be compared to Ben Howard. I have since become a fan of the electronic genre.
What is a song you wish you had written yourself?
Oh stop! There are so many songs that I wish I had written. Actually all songs by the Dutch artist Froukje, she is so creative with our language. But if I have to choose an international artist, I'll go for the song Appletree by Aurora. That song is so incredibly well written, the crazy stuff and sounds in it. And all those backings, I'm extremely jealous of that song.
What has been the most thrilling moment about creating your own music?
The moment I decided to really go for it and release it. I had been writing songs for a long time, and I also did some things with bands. But in the time of the quarantine by covid, that was not in it of course. So I decided to go all out and put together an EP about strong women.
And what about the most frustrating part?
Those moments are not necessarily in the writing of the songs. It's more everything that comes with it when you want to release a song. You have to make sure that you are present everywhere on your socials, it is really a tough task.
Which artist would you most love to share a stage with?
Oh, easy question! I have 3: Aurora, Troye Sivan and Sakima! 3 of my biggest inspirations, everything they make is gold.
Where do you see yourself in five years time?
I always find it very difficult to look ahead, I know from myself that I can put too much pressure on myself by setting too large goals in a short time. But I would really like to see myself on many different stages around the world. Starting at the pride Amsterdam, that's really a dream of mine. And of course a hit would be fantastic, so use my song all to make a fantastic tiktok for example haha.
