What was the first band or artist you fell in love with?
Destiny’s Child. Watching three powerful and incredibly talented women on my tv screen daily made me feel like my dreams could become a reality and I could be just like them one day.
Did you ever form a band when you were younger and if so, what did they sound like?
Unfortunately, no. I’d probably have the time of my life had I been part of a band but I was a bit shy when I was younger especially when it came to expressing myself through singing and performing.
What has been your primary inspiration in writing music?
Writing songs has been my release. My therapy. Most of my inspiration is drawn from a lot of things that were difficult for me to talk about so I started writing them down and felt healing and power in singing my experiences.
What is a song you wish you had written yourself?
Sia. Any song by Sia. There isn’t a song she’s ever written that wasn’t magic.
If there was any moment in your career you could relive, what would it be?
Shooting the video for my first single, Hither Hills. I had never felt that level of adrenaline in my life. Watching my work come to life through actors and dancers felt so surreal and was very emotional for me.
Which artist would you most love to share a stage with?
I really love any show Rosalia puts on. She incorporates so much of her culture and background in her performances and adds a modern flare to it with so much confidence and fierceness. I’d love to collide worlds.
And is there an artist you would love to collaborate with as well?
Miley Cyrus for sure. She is so authentic and true to herself and to her music. She is unapologetic and honest and I’d love to be in a creative space with her. Not to mention, she can sing her face off.
Where do you see yourself in five years time?
Creating, evolving, growing.
