New Jersey-based modern rock project Almost Alive returns with ‘Pieces Click’, a propulsive companion single to the latest album 'Pulse', delivering one of the project’s most focused and high-impact moments to date. Spearheaded by artist and producer Evan Kanter, Almost Alive continues to blur the line between human emotion and technological precision, crafting a sound that feels both cinematic and relentlessly driven.

Built on glitch-textured synths, driving guitars, and tight, rhythmic momentum, ‘Pieces Click’ captures the exact moment when chaos gives way to clarity. It’s a defining entry point into 'Pulse', an album that channels the project’s signature intensity into a more kinetic, forward-moving direction.

So with the new single out now, we sat down with him to find out more about his origins and influences over the years.

What was the first band or artist you fell in love with?

One of the first bands I really connected with was Linkin Park. They had this ability to blend raw emotion with heavy sound and electronic elements in a way that felt new at the time. That mix of intensity and atmosphere definitely stuck with me and shows up in what I do now.  It’s really awesome that they are doing new music again too.

Did you ever form a band when you were younger and if so, what did they sound like?

I didn’t form a band growing up - Almost Alive is really my first serious music project. It’s more of a studio-driven approach, focused on building sound and atmosphere through technology rather than a live setup, which is why it’s taken the shape it has today.

What has been your primary inspiration in writing music?

I wanted to make rock music that I would like to hear.  Pretty simple, but that was the main driver for me.  If I thought it rocked, then maybe others would too.

What is a song you wish you had written yourself?

There are a lot of songs I admire from a songwriting standpoint - especially ones where everything feels intentional and locked in. I’m drawn to music that balances structure, emotion, and atmosphere in a way that feels effortless.

That said, I try not to think too much in terms of “wishing I had written something.” For me, the focus is always on building something that feels original and true to the Almost Alive sound. Inspiration is definitely there, but it’s more about pushing ideas forward than recreating something that already exists.

If there was any moment in your career you could relive, what would it be?

I’d probably go back to the very beginning - releasing the first Almost Alive album. Not to change anything, but just to experience that moment again, knowing what I know now. There was something raw and uncertain about it, but also a lot of excitement in realizing this could actually become something real.

Which artist would you most love to share a stage with?

Since Almost Alive is a studio-driven project, I’m not focused on performing live. But in terms of where the music like “Pieces Click” would naturally fit, it would be alongside artists like Nine Inch Nails or Tool - artists that build immersive, atmospheric experiences.

And is there an artist you would love to collaborate with as well?

I’d love to collaborate with Mike Shinoda from Linkin Park. He has a really unique ability to blend rock, electronic elements, and melody in a way that feels modern but still grounded, which aligns closely with what I’m building with Almost Alive.

Where do you see yourself in five years time?

In five years, I want Almost Alive to feel like a complete world - where the music, visuals, and ideas all connect. The goal is to keep refining the sound and pushing it forward, while building something that people can consistently come back to and get something out of.
