GET TO KNOW: Silvastone

Following on from the release of his much-loved studio album 'Evolution' last year, London-based artist Silvastone is now back on the grind for 2024 to deliver his woozy new single 'Blessed'.

Continuing to explore more of that rich and shimmering afrobeat-inspired aesthetic he is known for, 'Blessed' makes for an incredibly smooth and enjoyable listen throughout. With his warm and inviting vocals spread across a sun-kissed production from start to finish, he is returning to the fold with one of his most passionate efforts yet.

So with the new single available to stream now, we sat down with him to find out more about his origins and influences over the years.

What was the first band or artist you fell in love with?

Boy George was the first artist I knew to impact me. The infectious song “Karma Chameleon” just made me feel so good when I heard the chorus and it’s the first time I remember feeling happy when I heard a song. That’s what inspired me to make my own music for people to feel the same way.

Did you ever form a band when you were younger and if so, what did they sound like?

I never formed a band, but I did have childhood friends who used to come to my house to make music on my computer and MC over vinyl instrumentals until my neighbours would bang on the walls because the music was too loud – I think it was because we sounded too good!

What has been your primary inspiration in writing music?

I’ve had some crazy life experiences, and it’s these as well as my cultural heritage and the music that I grew up with and listen to now that inspires me. I listen to the world around me and draw on personal stories and emotions to create music that resonates with people but also leaves them on a high and with good vibes. I see my songs as a way to transcend boundaries and connect with people through a universal ‘language’ of music.

What is a song you wish you had written yourself?

Paradise by Coldplay

If there was any moment in your career you could relive, what would it be?

When I heard my music played by a 45-piece orchestra in Fairfield Halls was mind blowing. I never thought my music would sound that beautiful with 45 independent talented musicians playing and making it sound heavenly.

Which artist would you most love to share a stage with?

I’d love to share the stage with Angelique Kidjo – technically, I’ve already shared the stage with her when I DJ’d with Emmanuel Jal, however, I would love to share the energy on stage as a performer with her.

And is there an artist you would love to collaborate with as well?

This would be Kanye West – I really like his music production, artistry and how he has reinvented himself year after year.

Where do you see yourself in five years time?

In five years, I see myself as a globally recognised artist, known for spreading positivity through my music and headlining international tours, collaborating with diverse talents, and continuing to inspire others with my artistry. My goal is to establish a platform for emerging musicians from underrepresented backgrounds, nurturing the next generation of diverse voices in the music industry.
