With its passionate flow riding across a heartfelt R&B-inspired production throughout, he is returning with one of his more impactful efforts to date here.
So with the new single available to stream now, we sat down with him to find out more about his background and influences over the years.
What was the first band or artist you fell in love with?
The first artist(s) I found a huge interest in was probably between 50 cent, Eminem, and Cassidy. I loved 50’s cadence, Eminem’s versatility, and Cassidy’s punchlines. They all played a huge part in inspiring me.
Did you ever form a band when you were younger and if so, what did they sound like?
Yea it’s funny I did.. I formed maybe 3 in total throughout my entire career but it was more like rap groups. In every group I’ve been in we all rapped. We had different styles but all we worried about was punchlines. I guess because that was the thing back then.
What has been your primary inspiration in writing music?
So I draw my inspiration from just real life events. As we all go through this human experience I find a sense of relief in the transformation of my thoughts to an instrumental. Music is kind of my outlet.. it’s always been therapeutic for me. Sometimes I’ll have fun and make music for the masses but ultimately my favorite music to make is music that gives you a strong emotional connection. So the majority of my music some people might consider sad or mood music.
What is a song you wish you had written yourself?
Ahh man there’s a number of songs I wish I had written myself, the list is probably endless.. but if I had to go with one I would say last last by burna boy. Anytime that song comes on there’s no skipping, no changing, no pausing.. we let that rock out.
If there was any moment in your career you could relive, what would it be?
If I could relive any moment in my career it would probably be performing at Webster hall. It’s something about performing in front of hundreds of people and getting that nervous feeling right before, unsure if they’ll approve of it or not and shortly after gaining the confidence that they love you because you’re you, and you make hits not garbage.
Which artist would you most love to share a stage with?
If ever given the opportunity I’d love to share the stage with Tory lanez. Aside from being one of the most creative and talented artists of today’s generation. The guy knows how to put on one hell of a show.
And is there an artist you would love to collaborate with as well?
If I had to pick just one artist I’d love to collaborate with it would probably be between Drake and Bryson tiller.
Where do you see yourself in five years time?
In 5 years time I see myself touring with millions of fans begging for my next release. I see myself bringing something new and authentic to music.
