With football once again bringing supporters together, Impact Sound Lab have delivered an anthem designed to capture the emotion, belief and unity that define following England on the biggest stage. Their new single 'Rise Up England (We Shall Never Surrender)' combines soaring rock melodies, cinematic production and stadium-sized choruses to celebrate the passion of the Three Lions and the fans who stand behind them.
Created by songwriter David Matheson and producer Norm Sabourin, the track is more than a sporting rallying cry. Inspired by family history, military service, and years spent coaching football, the song carries a deeply personal message about resilience, pride and the enduring power of hope. It’s a release that blends heartfelt storytelling with the energy of a modern football anthem, designed to be sung as loudly in the stands as it is through the speakers.
So with the new track out now, we sat down with them to find out more about their origins and influences over the years.
What was the first band or artist you fell in love with?
Guess it had to be Bowie, Ziggy Stardust.
Did you ever form a band when you were younger and if so, what did they sound like?
Hahaha yeah of course. A cross between G ‘n’ R and Pulp.
What has been your primary inspiration in writing music?
My father’s love of poetry and of course, my brother’s drive to change music.
What is a song you wish you had written yourself?
Sympathy for the Devil. Of course I’d have to finish ‘The Master and Margarita” by Mikhail Bulgakov. Only half way through it at the moment.
If there was any moment in your career you could relive, what would it be?
Ahhh regrets, I’ve had a few. Straight out of college in the 90’s, my managing career, I’d just signed a publishing deal and a record deal for an artist with Universal Music and being a little green behind the ears I wasn’t stringent enough in holding the reins.
Which artist would you most love to share a stage with?
Lana Del Rey, without a doubt. Of course, I’d just stand there dumbfounded.
And is there an artist you would love to collaborate with as well?
I’m open to working with anyone but from a lyricist standpoint, David Jane out of Toronto. Quite the wordsmith.
Where do you see yourself in five years time?
The Caribbean. Sint Maarten, sipping a Heineken.
