GET TO KNOW: DAYSH

After breaking through with her stunning initial offerings 'INFORMER' and 'BIPOLAR' earlier this year, London-based artist DAYSH is back on the grind once again to deliver her pulsing new single '3AM FREESTYLE'.

Teaming up with Frizz Price for this new release, '3AM FREESTYLE' makes for an incredibly bold and driven listen. With her progressive flow layered across a shimmering production throughout, she continues to shine as one of the more exciting names on the rise right now.

So with the new track available to stream now, we sat down with her to find out more about her origins and influences over the years.

What was the first band or artist you fell in love with?

When I was younger I was obsessed with Horror movies; lol. so when I first saw Michael Jackson Thriller I was amazed. I loved how it was filmed like a movie and journeyed through the context of the song. I immediately fell in love with MICHAEL JACKSON.

Did you ever form a band when you were younger and if so, what did they sound like?

When I was 13 me and my friend used to write lyrics and rap to each other. We weren't a duo or anything, we were basically Simon Cowelling each other. She was the only person I was vulnerable enough to let her hear my raps and songs.

What has been your primary inspiration in writing music?

I was always drawn most to music that pulled an emotion out of me, lyrics so powerful I could depict it was my own story.

Beyoncé and Krept & Konan are the 3 main artists that made me focus on my songwriting style. I wanted to use my own life, ventures and emotions to alchemise into songs that could connect with another person in that same capacity I had experienced as a listener.

What is a song you wish you had written yourself?

Sorrows by Bryson Tiller. The level of creativity is so complex, I was in awe the first time I heard it. He was expressing feelings I couldn’t at that time, around a production that complimented his vocals but was emphasising the contrast in his emotions.

If there was any moment in your career you could relive, what would it be?

I would relive one of the first shows I ever did, mostly because it went far better than I had anticipated. I went in  nervous with a plan of testing the reaction I’d get for the sound I’d been working on, quite different to what I’d been making before.

I got re-loaded a couple times that night; I think the validation of creating and sharing something I personally thought was good and having strangers genuinely feel the same way was cool to experience.

Which artist would you most love to share a stage with?

That’s hard, um, Kehlani or Teyana Taylor. I want my own shows to eventually get to that magnitude of being an entire experience with themes, dancers and everything.

And is there an artist you would love to collaborate with as well?

DBE have a really unique sound that I genuinely respect, they serve as a compliment to whomever they work with and it never takes away from them or the other artist, they always coexist well.

Where do you see yourself in five years time?

I see myself  living abroad by then working on art and music, grabbing more international leverage with collaborations in other communities such as fashion, tattooing and skating. Providing and inspiring people just like me.
