What was the first band or artist you fell in love with?
The first artist I fell in love with was Jill Scott and the song was “A Long Walk”. Wow! I remember the music video, where I was at the time, and how it changed my life forever! Music has always been a part of my life and up until that point, I think I was only paying attention to the beat of the song. I had no idea what lyrics and soul were but when I heard that song, I felt it. Did you ever form a band when you were younger and if so, what did they sound like?
I never formed a band when I was younger, but I did form a dance group with the neighborhood kids. We danced and lip-sang to Destiny’s Child and I was always Beyonce! What has been your primary inspiration in writing music?
Music is how I express my emotions. It’s really my outlet. If I didn’t write music, I don’t think I would ever fully process my emotions. I keep writing to keep my sanity. What is a song you wish you had written yourself?
There are so many great songs out there, but I believe music is personal. For me, my music is inspired by my life experiences and though there are songs that I relate to, it will never be my story. If there was any moment in your career you could relive, what would it be?
I’m still growing as an artist and every day is new and exciting for me at this point in my career. I’m only focusing on evolving and I can’t wait for the next thing. Which artist would you most love to share a stage with?
I would love to share the stage with my biggest influences Jill Scott and Erykah Badu. And is there an artist you would love to collaborate with as well?
I would love to collaborate with Robert Glasper. He makes music for my soul! Where do you see yourself in five years time?
I hope to see growth in my career as well as growth in my personal life. I would like to have found my signature sound and have a stable team that I can work with and that we can all grow together.
