Dave Clark finds beauty in the shadows on ‘Lady Liberty’

Following the warmly received ‘Through The Wall’, Dave Clark returns with ‘Lady Liberty’, a beautifully understated new single that turns difficult experience into rich, atmospheric songwriting.

Produced by Glenn Kerrigan, the track favours space and subtlety over spectacle. Haunting slide guitar moves around his warm vocal delivery, while restrained percussion and carefully layered instrumentation give the song a timeless quality reminiscent of The Verve, Nick Drake and Justin Vernon.

Beneath that beauty sits considerably heavier subject matter. Inspired partly by his own experience of major illness, ‘Lady Liberty’ considers the lasting toll such periods can leave behind. He also expands that personal perspective outward, drawing a parallel between individual struggles and what he perceives as a broader sickness within society.

With further music promised this year, ‘Lady Liberty’ continues the progression heard on ‘Through The Wall’. Quietly powerful and wonderfully textured, it finds Clark increasingly confident in transforming years of lived experience into songs that linger long after they've ended.
