Cigarettes After Sex return with two evocative new tracks that showcase both evolution and homage. ‘Anna Karenina’ is a slow-burning, spoken-word-laced cut that explores intimacy and longing in the band’s signature dreamy haze. In contrast, their shimmering take on The Doors’ ‘The Crystal Ship’ reimagines the 1967 classic through a lens of melancholic minimalism, a long-awaited fan favourite finally seeing the light of day.
The release arrives ahead of frontman Greg Gonzalez joining surviving members of The Doors at LA’s Greek Theatre on the 30th October to mark their 60th anniversary. It also follows a landmark streaming milestone, with ‘Apocalypse’ passing 2 billion plays, and three more songs crossing the billion mark in just one week.
