Following the success of their chart-topping debut 'Prelude to Ecstasy', London’s theatrical alt-pop five-piece The Last Dinner Party return with ‘Second Best’, the third offering from their hotly anticipated second album 'From The Pyre', out 17th October via Island Records.

Written by guitarist Emily Roberts and inspired by the sharp-edged pop of Sparks, ‘Second Best’ is a glittering yet gut-punching track about loving someone who you know will hurt you and letting them. “It’s about the ache of being obsessed with someone, even when they treat you like a backup option,” Emily explains. “But it’s also about reclaiming that pain by turning it into a song.”

After Emily penned the track’s core, bandmates Abi, Lizzie, Aurora, and Georgia each added their own lyrical and musical flair, weaving in bouncing synths and a bold bassline that lifts the song into defiant territory. The result is a cathartic, tightly crafted alt-pop gem that balances venom and vulnerability with theatrical flair.
