Surface Detail - 'This Lantern'

Surface Detail are continuing the build-up to their next full-length release with new single 'This Lantern'.

The Scottish band are accompanying the album campaign with a series of visual teasers rather than presenting a conventional linear storyline. Early clues point towards a dystopian country, an unexplained winter challenge and a number of recurring symbols that listeners are being encouraged to interpret for themselves.

'This Lantern' provides another piece of that developing world. Its story centres on a lantern that offers light and comfort before being discarded when its usefulness ends.

Musically, the track brings together progressive-metal complexity and heavier, more abrasive passages, with guest singer Robbie Horn of High Voltage joining the band.

The forthcoming record will also feature an expanded role for keyboardist Elaine Masson, whose classical, jazz-fusion and electronic background has introduced additional synth textures and broader arrangements to Surface Detail’s sound.
