Nashville's Scott Clay has unveiled his latest single 'The Compass and the Wheel', a track rooted in historical storytelling and human endurance.

Inspired by Hampton Sides’ nonfiction book 'In the Kingdom of Ice', the song draws from the real-life journey of the USS Jeannette, led by Captain George DeLong. Trapped in Arctic ice for nearly two years while attempting to chart a passage to the North Pole, DeLong’s experience forms the emotional backbone of the track.

Recorded in Nashville at Farmland Studios, the single features a seasoned lineup of musicians, including guitarist Guthrie Trapp, bassist Steve Mackey, and drummer Greg Morrow. Their contributions help shape a rich, organic sound that complements the song’s narrative weight.

With this new release, Clay transforms a harrowing chapter of exploration into a reflective and atmospheric piece, blending historical inspiration with contemporary songwriting.
