Liverpool rock outfit RISE revisit one of their strongest earlier tracks with ‘Hard To Leave You (Barbarian Mix)’.
Originally appearing on 2024’s 'Memories and Possibilities' EP, the song has been substantially reworked after the band felt its first studio incarnation never quite matched the force it developed onstage. The new version closes that gap, bringing greater weight and urgency while retaining the melodic character at the heart of RISE’s sound.
stayMellow delivers a particularly commanding vocal performance, moving between power and vulnerability as the song wrestles with the uncertainty surrounding a failing relationship. But rather than providing an easy resolution, the lyrics remain caught between staying and walking away. Brian Petch’s detailed guitar work provides another focal point, cutting through the band’s combination of rock instrumentation and synths.
Written by Paul Kinley and recorded at Liverpool’s Whitewood Studios, the track was produced by Kinley alongside longtime collaborator Rob Whiteley.
For RISE, this new mix is a chance to finally capture ‘Hard To Leave You’ with the intensity the band always believed it deserved.
