Melbourne outfit Reetoxa are turning a fleeting real-life encounter into the foundation of their latest release 'The Lisa Song', a track that unexpectedly became the catalyst for frontman Jason McKee’s long-delayed musical journey.
The story dates back to a Spiderbait show at Melbourne’s Forum Theatre, where McKee found himself attending alone after being abandoned by a date. What followed was an unlikely conversation with a stranger named Lisa, whose playful interruption during a photo at the gig became an image he could not shake.
At the time, he had spent years writing songs privately while studying music at university, with little more than rough voice notes to show for it. Encouraged by the interaction, he soon connected with producer Simon Moro and finally committed to recording material properly after decades of songwriting.
Lisa vanished into the crowd before the night ended, but the encounter continues to shape both the song and the identity of Reetoxa today.
