Melinda Joy’s latest release takes impermanence as its central subject.

Rather than approaching change purely through loss, “Deadly” looks at the way necessary endings can make room for renewal. The theme is carried by a dreamlike arrangement featuring piano, guitar, electric bass, drums, keyboards and layered vocals.

The song itself began during a half-awake moment, when Joy heard its central melody and refrain before quickly recording them on her phone. The remaining lyrics followed soon afterwards.

Joy is a singer-songwriter and bass player whose wider work spans psychology, spirituality, filmmaking and creative education. She also holds a Ph.D. focused on creativity and hosts The Syncreate Podcast: Empowering Creativity.

The new single arrives while Joy is developing another full-length album with producer Antony Galatis following an unexpected meeting during a recent UK tour.
